Sweet Fig Bakery is the result of a lifelong passion for expressing creativity through food. Heather Rowat grew up watching her mother bake and artfully decorate cakes (long before it was popular reality TV). She was amazed that such mouth watering works of art could be fashioned from just a few simple ingredients. Seriously, have you ever looked at a golden buttery croissant fresh from the oven and thought, "This started out as flour, butter, milk and yeast?" Brings a tear to the eye.
After spending many years working as a Sign Language Interpreter, Heather decided to return to school to pursue her first passion, in 2010, she graduated with her Diplome du Patisserie from the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Academy. Heather worked as a Pastry Chef at various resorts, institutions and bakeries before deciding to venture out on her own.
Chef Heather believes that God has provided the earth with a bounty of incredible colors, tastes and textures in food and an amazing creative ability to put it all together! She could not possibly do any of this without His imagination and guidance. Heather encourages her customers to stretch beyond the average fare and delight their palate with the endless array of quality culinary treats available out there.
Sweet fig bakery bakes everything from scratch using only the highest quality ingredients and supports local vendors by using their products whenever possible. Butter is better......always! Our products are so fresh that they are still warm from the oven when we arrive at the market. All of our pastries are hand rolled and crafted individually, it is very time consuming so we only make what we can, once it is gone, that's it for the day. We refuse to use machines in order to mass produce our product. So please get to the market earlier to avoid disappointment.
The bakery does not have an actual store front. You can find Sweet Fig Bakery at the Brockville Farmers Market on Saturdays from 8:30am to 1pm (or until sold out) or by placing an order.
Thank you. :)
